What is IFS?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a gentle, trauma-informed approach that helps you make sense of the different parts of yourself that may have developed in response to painful or overwhelming experiences. These parts, such as those that feel fear, shame, anger, or numbness, often formed as ways to protect you.

In IFS, we don’t try to get rid of these parts, instead, we listen to them with compassion and curiosity. As you begin to understand and care for these inner parts, you can reconnect with your core Self, the calm, wise part of you that can lead your healing journey with strength and clarity.

In IFS therapy sessions, we work together to:

  • Identify and understand different internal parts

  • Reduce inner conflict and emotional overwhelm

  • Heal wounded or protective parts with compassion

  • Strengthen access to your core Self

  • Develop healthier emotional responses and coping strategies

IFS therapy may benefit you if you experience:

  • Anxiety, chronic stress, or feeling overwhelmed

  • Depression, low self-esteem, or persistent self-criticism

  • Trauma or unresolved childhood wounds

  • Emotional reactivity, mood swings, or difficulty regulating emotions

  • Relationship challenges, attachment issues, or fear of intimacy

  • Shame or guilt

  • People-pleasing, perfectionism, or difficulty setting boundaries

  • Addictive behaviors or unwanted coping patterns

  • A sense of being stuck despite trying other forms of therapy
